About Greg

Join me to Build the Strong Future our Community Deserves.

Our Scenic Rim is a unique place with its spectacular and varied environmental settings, its incredible productivity, and its diverse and unique communities. The Community Plan rightly identifies an exciting and strong future path for our region that demands the very best leadership focus to bring it to life. The Future of the Scenic Rim

Working on Things that Matter

Dedicated to the long-term success of the Scenic Rim region, I have demonstrated effective leadership through initiatives such as the Regional Prosperity Strategy, environmental preservation programs, and strategic economic development. My commitment extends to fostering local job growth, developing engaged communities, and preserving the environment, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for the Scenic Rim community.

Providing Strong and Principled Leadership

True leadership extends beyond popularity, demanding a steadfast commitment to the Community Plan's long-term goals. My track record, reflected in successful initiatives, underscores this dedication to project completion and regional advocacy.

Fostering Local Job Growth

Establishing a thriving local employment hub is essential for community well-being, minimising the need for the 40% commuting out daily. I am dedicated to advancing plans aligned with the Regional Prosperity Strategy, promoting our region, and advocating for diverse career opportunities and infrastructure upgrades to foster local employment and community growth.

Investing in Infrastructure and Services

I'm dedicated to enhancing community spaces, such as playgrounds and town centres, fostering a sense of togetherness. From advocating for sports participation to securing funding for vital projects, I'm committed to creating vibrant, active, and inclusive environments that strengthen community bonds.

Preserving and Protecting our Environment

I take pride in leading impactful initiatives to address climate change and environmental challenges. From spearheading the Climate Change Statement of Intent to championing waste management and river protection programs, my commitment is unwavering, ensuring a sustainable and resilient future for the Scenic Rim region.

Providing Strong & Principled Leadership

Leadership requires more than just seeking short-term popularity or providing simplistic solutions. I believe leadership requires strength of character and commitment to the long-term aspirations of the Community Plan. This means we achieve the right focus and not become captive to short-term issues. I have held that strategic long-term focus every day of my service – it is visible in the success of the Regional Prosperity Strategy and the suite of supporting roadmaps like the Agribusiness and Agritourism Roadmap.

Fostering Local Job Growth

A strong village has good local employment with strong multi-generational opportunities so people truly can work where they live, and have time to be part of their families and their communities. At present, 40% of our region’s working-age population commute out of the region each day for work and most of our children also have to join this exodus for their future employment because we do not have rich and diverse opportunities locally. When people commute for work it adds at least $50 – $80 per week to their cost of living; it takes them away from their families for sometimes 2 extra hours each day; and often there are no other family generations close to support the family through that time. We can change this, save families on their cost of living, and bring more family time back each day, freeing time to be part of the community.

Investing in Infrastructure and Services to Improve our Liveability and Support Engaged Communities

I believe communities need safe and relevant places to come together to play, relax and spend time with family. Since 2016 I have celebrated the upgrade of our various playgrounds across the region which has delivered interesting modern play spaces for all abilities children. It has also been a joy to commence the series of town centre renewal projects under the Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages (VATV) Program. Commencing with Tamborine Mountain Main St precinct, followed by Boonah High Street and now under way on Beaudesert Town Centre, these efforts are creating places that people enjoy spending time together in. I also believe that widespread sports participation is a great way to keep our youth and adults interacting as one healthy community.

Preserving and Protecting our Environment for Future Generations

As Mayor, I have been delighted to gain support from other Councillors for our first Climate Change Statement of Intent which has now been developed into a comprehensive package of actions to recognise our firm commitment to address impacts for our region. I have also chaired the Council of Mayors SEQ Waste Working Party working with the State Government to develop and commence implementation of the  SEQ Waste Management Plan to win the war on waste. I am proud to have represented the communities wishes in having Coal and Coal Seam Gas Tenements extinguished across Scenic Rim ensuring our farms and natural environments are secure for future communities.
