Integrity and Transparency

I was determined when I came to Council to ensure we upheld the highest standards possible through the behaviour in the Council Chamber. I am satisfied that we have shown good discipline to respect the separation between the role of elected Councillors and the proper role of appointed officers. Not all members of the community understand the importance of the legislative framework elected Councillors operate within and therefore sometimes expect us to interfere with due process. I’m proud we have maintained the integrity of good governance that our community can rely on.

Diversification for Resilience

Diversifying into a wider range of industry sectors that are compatible with our communities and environment will give us greater resilience. The current drought has taken its toll on our community however our economy still shows strength. One reason for this is that we have a number of industries that are immune to drought and provide a stable source of employment and revenue to the region.

Primary Production

Our region is home to leaders in innovation across many facets of Primary Production – leaders in agricultural technology, leaders in plant nutrition, leaders in beef genetics, leaders in equine and canine health support, leaders in land management and soil health to name just a few. However, there is a continued need to innovate and improve to maintain the future viability of primary production.

- Message from Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen -
Chair of Local Disaster Management Group

After another day of steady rain on our already saturated catchment we are now seeing overland flows of water, and rising levels in creeks and rivers. We encourage those who have to travel to do so before dark.

Conditions can change swiftly and that includes our road conditions, so please take away three key messages today.

• If it's flooded, forget it
• If it's not urgent, defer it, and
• Home is the safest place to be.

Tune in to local radio stations, and use the Scenic Rim Regional Council Disaster Dashboard to stay up-to-date with Bureau of Meteorology weather warnings, road conditions and emergency updates.

Council crews are working hard to keep the local road network as safe as possible, remember you can contact Council on 5540 5111 if you see any debris that needs removing from the road, or damage to Council infrastructure.

Stay safe.

Greg Christensen

The Scenic Rim Regional Council is saddened by the passing of former Councillor and Beaudesert Shire's first female Mayor, Joy Drescher.

Statement from Scenic Rim Mayor, Greg Christensen.

"I know our community will be equally saddened by the loss of someone who was always so exuberant and loyal.

"It was her passion to ensure her children had a safe route to ride their bikes to school that convinced Ms Drescher to run for Council the first time in 1979.

"During her years in Local Government she served three terms as a Councillor and two as Mayor and afterwards maintained a strong interest in Council issues.

"Joy was a well-respected member of the Beaudesert community and a passionate advocate for preserving the character of the region to ensure Council dealt with growth in a way that the community continues to aspire to.

"Joy was a person who always found a way to share good humour, even in adverse circumstances.

"She will be remembered for her tireless efforts and impact, and most certainly for her laugh.

"Our condolences are extended to all those whose lives have been touched by Joy Drescher."
